Chapter 65: Heavy Rain
“People always have all sorts of things going on, and their thoughts are often strange. What they say may include things we don’t want to hear or aren’t willing to listen to. Some are unintentional, while others are deliberate. If we get upset over unintentional words, we only end up hurting ourselves. The other person might not even realize it, so what’s the point of getting angry?”
“And if someone says something deliberately hurtful, getting angry about it only plays into their hands. It’s not worth it. In the end, for minor matters like this, it’s best not to dwell on them or make a big deal out of it.” Su Mulan added calmly.
“I’ve noticed that Sister Feng, despite her strange ideas, still thinks about us. If we really find ourselves in trouble, she’s willing to help by giving us three buns. That shows some kindness. Whatever the reason, compared to those with malicious intentions, she’s acceptable.” Su Mulan continued, thinking of the contrast with Zhang, who clearly had malicious intentions.
“That makes sense.” Bai Shuiliu nodded thoughtfully.
After thinking for a moment, she added, “I think I roughly understand what Mother means. No one is perfect, and sometimes we shouldn’t be too picky. As long as the overall situation is good, it’s fine.”
“Exactly.” Su Mulan nodded in agreement.
Not to mention. Bai Shuiliu is the oldest among them, sees these matters most clearly and she understands them at once.
Bai Lixia blinked her eyes and said, “What if we encounter people who clearly have malicious intentions?”
“In that case, we definitely can’t let them off easily,” Su Mulan replied. “But we also need to consider the approach and method. It depends on the specifics of the situation. It’s not something we can explain in just a few words. We’ll discuss it in detail if we encounter such situations in the future.”
“Alright, let’s hurry and eat. After eating, we can’t rest this afternoon. We need to get busy quickly. I have a feeling the weather isn’t looking good,” Su Mulan observed.
Since cooking began at noon, more clouds had gathered in the sky. It was now so overcast that even the sun couldn’t shine through. Judging by the looks of it, it might rain in the afternoon, and the dried sweet potatoes might not dry properly.
Upon hearing this, the four radishes nodded in agreement and quickly ate their meat buns.
After finishing their meal swiftly, they started arranging to dry the sweet potatoes.
By late afternoon, the rain poured heavily from the sky.
The rain poured down like a flood, and water flowed down off the eaves in a steady stream, creating a curtain of rain when viewed from the doorway.
“Fortunately, we moved quickly and brought all the dried sweet potatoes inside. Otherwise, if they got wet, they would likely spoil,” Bai Lixia wiped away the sweat from her forehead that had formed by the recent hustle.
“Mm,” Bai Shuiliu nodded. “But the sun hasn’t shown all afternoon. The sweet potatoes haven’t dried much. We’ll have to let them dry inside the house tonight.”
On the table, chairs, and boxes, bamboo trays were placed, all holding dried sweet potatoes. The house was spacious enough to accommodate them all, but this arrangement also made it easier for mice to be attracted. They would need to be extra vigilant tonight.
Su Mulan pondered for a moment and said, “If it doesn’t work out, I’ll go borrow Da Huang from Auntie Liu. With Da Huang around, mice wouldn’t dare come near. I’ll keep watch tonight too, just to be safe.”
“Alright, I’ll go now,” Bai Lixia rolled up her pants legs, picked up the rain hat hanging at the door.
