Chapter 30
When two people are close like that, they often lose track of time. By the time Shi Yu finished drying Jiang Shangwan’s hair and washed up himself, it was already 11 o’clock in the evening
Jiang Shangwan didn’t have any men’s pajamas at home, so she quickly ordered a set for him to be delivered. While he was showering, she was choosing the size and material, the sound of water dripping by her ear. The screen of her phone displayed an array of various men’s loungewear, and a strange feeling stirred in her heart.
After being intimate, then buying his personal items—this feeling was really quite peculiar.
Only then did Shi Yu have time to take his phone. When he came to see Jiang Shangwan, he habitually put his phone on silent so messages wouldn’t interrupt their time together. Yet, his phone was already flooded with countless missed calls and an endless stream of WeChat messages.
“Boss, should we upgrade the company’s server again?!!! Tonight’s traffic exploded!!!”
“Boss, boss, are you there? Our company shouldn’t be short on money now, right? Maybe we should just hire a few more colleagues to come over, we really can’t handle this.”
“Boss!!!! Where are you!!!!”
—
Shi Yu frowned as he read all the unread messages—the company’s traffic was close to collapse, and investors were calling nonstop. Some even tried to set up meetings with some well-known officials, saying that the project which had attracted attention might even get government support.
He looked at his phone openly, without any privacy screen, so Jiang Shangwan naturally saw the messages and said, “No wonder you’re the rising star in tech. I bet your name is already known in the upper circles of Jiangcheng.”
Shi Yu pulled her close and rubbed her soft hair. “Good thing I put it on silent, or it would have disturbed our night together.”
Jiang Shangwan shook her head helplessly. Career was the most important thing. Pretending to be stern, she said, “Hurry and reply, it’s important. Your company is just starting out, so many people are watching you. Be careful.”
Shi Yu softly acknowledged and methodically handled the messages.
His tone during calls was completely different from when he was close to Jiang Shangwan—his voice was low, even a bit cold. “I’ve already arranged for someone to follow up on the server. Forget about the dinner for now. Recruitment is ongoing. I’ll be back at the company for interviews tomorrow.”
“I still have things to deal with tonight, so I won’t be there to oversee. But I’ll arrive on time tomorrow morning. Don’t worry about the already scheduled work.”
He ended the call and then, like a puppy wagging its tail, pressed himself close to Jiang Shangwan. The rose fragrance of her shower gel lingered on her, making him reluctant to let go. Holding her tighter, he sank deeper into the embrace.
At a certain point, he started to lift his head again, but Jiang Shangwan pushed him away. “Stop it. You have to get up early tomorrow to go back to the company and work. What about your school? You’re still a junior with lots of classes, right? Don’t get distracted now—you’re about to be a senior. It would be such a waste if your grades slip.”
“Don’t worry.” Shi Yu understood her concerns and reassured her, “Skipping classes will only affect part of my usual grades. I’ve already told my teachers about my current startup situation. As long as I do well on the final exams, my GPA won’t be affected.”
Jiang Shangwan wasn’t the kind of person to slack off just for pleasure. She also hoped Shi Yu wouldn’t either. His attraction to her was not just because they matched in physical beauty, but also because he was diligent in managing both his studies and work.
A sexy mind made him even more perfect.
Jiang Shangwan hugged a snow-white pillow and led Shi Yu to a side bedroom. Compared to the master bedroom, this room was somewhat smaller but still impressively spacious. It was fully furnished, with a walk-in closet, bathroom, and washroom.
No guests ever came to Jiang Shangwan’s home, only the servants occasionally stayed in the maid’s quarters. So there weren’t many beddings—only a thin silk summer quilt, and even the pillows had been moved from her own room.
“Good night.” She lowered her head and kissed Shi Yu’s eyelids. “Sweet dreams.”
Shi Yu held her hand and kissed her pale fingertips. “Good night, Wanwan.”
—
The next morning, when Jiang Shangwan woke up, Shi Yu was already gone. Coincidentally, she had a flight for a business trip out of town that afternoon.
She caught a faint, alluring scent at her nose. Curious, she walked to the dining room and found the table full of food. Lifting the covers, she saw a small bowl of white rice, scrambled eggs with tomato, a sandwich, and a portion of steamed shrimp cake.
He had actually made breakfast for her.
There was a message from Shi Yu on WeChat:
【Wanwan, you must eat breakfast after waking up. Don’t drink coffee on an empty stomach, or your stomach will feel uncomfortable. I grabbed whatever I could find in the fridge but made a separate sandwich just in case you don’t like the others. If it’s cold, remember to heat it up before eating.】
【Heart emoji】
At this moment, Jiang Shangwan was holding a cup of coffee. Reading the message warmed her heart. She also noticed the kitchen was very clean—after cooking, he thoughtfully took out the trash.
Jiang Shangwan travels frequently for work, so the cook at home only comes when she specifically calls. This was the first time she woke up to a table with warm food waiting for her.
She pulled out a chair, sat down, and began enjoying Shi Yu’s lovingly prepared breakfast. Her appetite was great—she finished the entire sandwich and even happily took a selfie to send to Shi Yu.
—
After finishing a meeting where they set up a series of measures to handle the recent surge in traffic and heat, it was almost noon.
Shi Yu lightly pressed his temple, which was a bit throbbing from intense thinking, and casually opened WeChat. A beautiful, charming selfie popped up—
The woman was still wearing soft silk pajamas, her long hair loosely draped over her shoulder. She coquettishly winked at the camera, holding a half-eaten shrimp cake between her fingers. Her cheeks were rosy, showing she had rested well, and her complexion and mood looked great.
Shi Yu stared unconsciously for a while, a slight smile appearing on his lips—until a sudden “tsk tsk” sound next to him interrupted.
It was one of the earliest programmers he hired, Ma Xingqi, a computer science master’s graduate from another prestigious 985 university in Jiangcheng. Ma Xingqi had bombarded Shi Yu with messages on WeChat the day before begging for help: “Tsk tsk tsk, is this the boss’s wife? She looks like a movie star! No wonder you’ve been so busy lately, ignoring WeChat and not showing up at the office.”
Shi Yu quickly hid his phone so Ma couldn’t see it. “You talk too much.”
“Ah, our boss is really a winner in life—successful at work and even more successful in love.” Ma Xingqi, wearing black-rimmed glasses, had joined the startup impulsively after a bad breakup when his brain was foggy. He applied to this company just because it was hiring programmers.
Unexpectedly, he got hired quickly and started working there. Even more surprising, the company skyrocketed within six months, making him a promising asset, and he got pretty close with Shi Yu.
“So jealous.” Ma pushed up his glasses. It was lunch break, and after the meeting, most people had left, so he finally asked, “Boss, I always thought you look pretty young. I didn’t dare ask before—are you about my age?”
Ma Xingqi had graduated from grad school only a few years ago and didn’t continue to a PhD. He was under 30 now. It was awkward to ask this kind of question openly because being too young can make managing employees difficult.
Shi Yu asked back, “What do you think?”
Ma grinned, “I think you’re about the same age as me.”
“I’m a junior in college.” Shi Yu closed his laptop with one hand, picked it up, and stood to leave, casually saying this as he walked away.
Leaving Ma Xingqi with a face full of shock and confusion: “Holy crap!!!!!! So young!!!!!! He hasn’t even graduated from undergrad!!!”

The current popularity of Wish Come True wouldn’t have been possible without Wen Yuwan pushing it from behind the scenes. Wen Yuwan’s methods were completely different from her delicate appearance and temperament—she was direct and fierce. From the overwhelming offline advertising blitz at launch to the precise and ruthless online hype afterward, step by step, she drove the buzz to its peak.
At first, some people thought Shi Yu was just some unknown young guy throwing around a bit of money to buy traffic. After all, Jiangcheng doesn’t have any big-name families with the surname Shi. They planned to copy the concept and operation of Wish Come True to try to suppress or even swallow up his project.
But soon they found out the Lin family was backing him and had issued a stern warning.
If anyone dared to recklessly spend money to copy and seize the market, the Lin family would not tolerate it. Then we’ll see who has the stronger cash flow.
So no one dared to dirty their hands, and for a time, Shi Yu’s momentum was unstoppable. He fiercely rose to prominence in Jiangcheng’s tech scene. This suddenly emerging tech newcomer earned a strong reputation thanks to his meticulous Virgo nature.
After the peak of the hype passed, Shi Yu found time to return to school. He first went to the communications department to wrap up some leftover work from a previous competition, submitting some PPT materials.
“Well done. I’ve been seeing you on the news a lot lately,” Teacher Wang proudly patted his right shoulder. “Should I start calling you ‘Young CEO’ now?”
“Don’t dare,” Shi Yu replied modestly. “I wouldn’t have come this far without your guidance, which made my minor go so smoothly.”
Teacher Wang waved his hand, saying it had nothing to do with him. Shi Yu was just naturally gifted, otherwise, out of so many students, how could he be the only one who stands out?
But he also reminded him, “This is your hottest time now. Be careful not to get copied by others.” Then he added, “Although it’s strange no one’s come to cause trouble for you yet.”
Shi Yu’s company and project had so much positive news that there was almost no negative coverage—a rare thing. Teacher Wang didn’t know the Lin family was protecting him behind the scenes. If it were just him alone, he would have been swallowed up long ago.
Shi Yu didn’t explain much. He was grateful and remembered the Lin family’s help in his heart, and saw no need to boast about it in public.
