Chapter 31: Twisted Ankle
“Alone?”
“Does that mean Bai Shuiliu has already been sold?”
Everyone’s expression changed, and the faces of Bai Lixia and the other two child turned ashen.
Bai Zhuye wailed loudly.
With this cry, Bai Lixia and Bai Midou couldn’t help but sob, choking and gasping for breath.
They were pitiful children to begin with, and now, seeing them cry like this made everyone present feel uncomfortable. As they looked at Su Mulan approaching from afar, their hearts were filled with hatred.
Su Mulan was truly despicable!
At this moment, Su Mulan was gritting her teeth, walking slowly.
Sweat was dripping down her forehead, running down her cheeks, and falling to the ground from her chin with a “drip, drip” sound. Some sweat got into her eyes, causing a stinging pain.
These discomforts made Su Mulan walk even more slowly. She even had to stop and adjust Bai Shuiliu on her back.
“Mother, let me walk. It’s fine,” Bai Shuiliu said, feeling very guilty seeing how exhausted Su Mulan was. “I just accidentally stepped wrong and twisted my ankle. It’s not a big deal.”
As she spoke, Bai Shuiliu struggled to get down from Su Mulan’s back.
“Don’t move,” Su Mulan tightened her grip. “You mustn’t push through a twisted ankle. Otherwise, it can lead to chronic problems. It might hurt when it rains or when it’s cloudy. Don’t force yourself now and end up suffering for a lifetime.”
“Mother, I’m really not that delicate…”
“Why don’t my words work anymore?” Su Mulan saw Bai Shuiliu insisting and knew that persuasion was useless, so she furrowed her brows and shouted.
Bai Shuiliu was still fearful of Su Mulan deep down. Upon hearing her shout, she immediately didn’t dare to move.
Seeing this, Su Mulan breathed a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but smile wryly for a moment.
Despite its drawbacks, this fierce image still had its uses at critical times.
However, this was not the time for reflection. She needed to quickly carry Bai Shuiliu home and find Bai Sancheng, who understood pharmacology, in the village. They needed some swelling-reducing medicine. It was crucial not to let any chronic problems develop, especially during this growth period.
With these thoughts, Su Mulan took a deep breath, steadied herself, and continued walking.
As they approached the village entrance, Su Mulan saw a crowd of people standing there and faintly heard the sound of children crying bitterly.
“What happened? What’s going on?” Bai Shuiliu couldn’t help but poke her head out to see.
“I don’t know, let’s go and see,” Su Mulan quickened her pace.
Before she could reach the crowd, a woman stormed up to her in a few angry strides, pointing at her and shouting, “How dare you come back!”
“Hmm?” Su Mulan raised her eyebrows, looking at the woman in front of her, Han, in surprise. “Sister-in-law Han, what do you mean by that?”
“What do you mean? You’ve done something despicable…” Before Han could finish her sentence, she noticed Bai Shuiliu, who looked equally puzzled, peeking out from Su Mulan’s shoulder.
“Shuiliu?” Han was instantly stunned. “Wasn’t your mother going to sell you?”
Bai Lixia and the other two looked up, saw Bai Shuiliu, and were both shocked and delighted, rushing over.
“Big sister hasn’t been sold…”
The three radishes, because of their pleasant surprise, burst into tears again.
Seeing this scene, Su Mulan understood what was going on. She put Bai Shuiliu down from her back, furrowed her brows, and scanned the people around her. “What’s going on? Who said I was going to sell Bai Shuiliu?”
